I have taken notice that in unwanted cameras, specialized detectors help to aim automatically. The actual sensors with some digital cameras change in contrast, while others make use of a beam involving infra-red (IR) light, particularly in low lumination. Higher specs cameras often use a mix of both programs and probably have Face Priority AF where the photographic camera can ‘See’ some sort of face and focus only on that.
