Review: Bennie Diction – Hard Grafts, Arts & Crafts and Hearty Laughs (UK)

bennie

This is my first post on the site. Just wanted to say its dope having the opportunity to be able to open the doors of UK hip hop and give you an insight into an absolutely monstrous underground scene that’s happening right now over here. I’m an Emcee who makes music with a bunch of wierdos and we call ourselves Northern Structure. If you ever get chance head over to www.northernstructure.bandcamp.com and see what were about.

Moving on from the shameless promotion.  Bennie Diction is an emcee currently residing in the city of London. He is part of hip hop collective ‘the punning clan’ and has been blessing mics for around about a decade now.

This offering features Mr Diction spitting over a laid back selection of  beats contributed by seven different producers ranging from Northern structure’s Fidj the Producer to fellow punning clan posse member Ro Jista. The Collaboration list is also as heavy as can be expected. There’s the soulful talents of Eliza Shaddad and Liam Bailey contrasted nicely by the raw grittiness of Liverpool emcee Tony Skank and long time collaborator and London Lyricist lounge Host Leen which exemplify the versatility of Bennie’s ability as a writer. The mood is ambient throughout and the best example of this has to be the single and video ‘beer goggles and rose-tinted specs’ featured below.

Having just released his debut LP following up his hard hitting EP ‘Excuse me’ Bennie is now focusing on another three projects that he has in the works so its clear to see the guy has got mad plans for the future. Don’t sleep!
